Baseball Earns Two GNAC Weekly Awards

The Suffolk University Baseball team returned from their annual spring trip to Winter Haven, Florida with a 5-3 record and had two players earn accolades by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) in their first week of action.

Freshman Devan Jones (Roslindale, Mass.) was named GNAC Rookie of the Week. In the eight game stretch, Jones hit .382 (13-for-34) on the Suffolk spring trip, leading the team with five extra base hits in eight games. Jones hit a go-ahead grand slam in the sixth inning of Suffolk's 11-7 victory over Curry College on Thursday and finished the week leading the team inRBI with 8 and tied for the team lead in hits with 13. Jones had multiple hit days in four of Suffolk’s eight games,including two 3-for-6 performances at the plate, against Stevens Institute of Technology and Curry College.

Sophomore pitcher Matt Sliney (Brockton, Mass.) was named to the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll. Sliney picked up a win and save over eight days. Sliney pitched five innings giving up three runs in the Rams' 13-7 win over Stevens Institute on Sunday. Sliney came out of the bullpen on Thursday to record his first career save pitching the final three innings in the Rams' 11-7 win over Curry fanning five hitters.
