Hockey Coach Chris Glionna Recognized by Boston Magazine


 

When not leading the charge behind the bench for the Rams' blue and gold, Suffolk University Head Hockey Coach Chris Glionna spends his days working as an attorney for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Glionna was recently named by Boston Magazine as a 2009 Massachusetts "Super Lawyers Rising Stars" in litigation from a poll of Massachusetts attorneys conducted by Boston Magazine and  Law and Politics Magazine. Super Lawyers Rising Stars" are nominated by their peers and evaluated by a blue ribbon panel. Only 2.5% of the eligible attorneys in Massachusetts are selected. To qualify, an attorney must be age 40 or younger, or in practice for 10 years or less.

Suffolk University Director of Athletics James Nelson prasied Glionna for his recent recognition, "the Suffolk University community is exceptionally pleased and proud of Coach Glionna's deserved recognition as one of the select Massachusetts 2009 "Super Lawyers Rising Stars." Glionna enters the 2009-10 season as his sixth fulll season as Head Ice Hockey Coach at Suffolk this winter. The former Ram standout served as an assistant coach under Brian Horan for five seasons before ascending to the top post for the 2004-05season. During his time at Suffolk, Glionna has seen his program grow as one of the most reputable Division III hockey programs in New England. Last season Glionna coached Mitch Sabo ('09) who was named an ECAC Northeast All-Star as well a New England Hockey Writers All-Star. He also coach Kyle Cook ('09) was named an ESPN the Magazine's Academic All-District, the first such player in program history to earn such honors. In his six seasons behind the Rams bench, Glionna has seen four of his players earn recognition throughout and New England. He has coached two of Suffolk's top ten leading scorers in program history, and five of his players are among the leaders in program history for goals scored in a season.

Glionna is a 1995 Suffolk University graduate and also earned his Law degree at Suffolk University Law School in 2001.

Glionna's father, Leonard A. Glionna and brother, Josh Glionna, also graduated from Suffolk University.
