The Suffolk University Men’s Tennis team opened up the 2011 season with a 9-0 victory over Norwich University on Saturday afternoon and in the process earned two awards from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC).
Junior Chris Staley (London, England) was named GNAC Player of the Week for his efforts. Staley was a winner in both singles and doubles play on Saturday. Staley preserved the shutout for the Rams winning a 7-6 tiebreaker in the number two singles position, and was also a winner in the top doubles match with his partner Sean Cullen (Wells, Me.).
Freshman Hubert Cromback (Paris, France) was named GNAC Rookie of the Week. Cromback won his match in the number four singles position, 6-2, 6-3 and then partnered with senior John Samander (Curacao, Netherlands) for an 8-0 victory in the second doubles match.
The Rams will be back in action on Thursday evening as they take on Wentworth Institute of Technology in non-conference action at 6:00pm at the Dexter School.
