Softball falls to Curry, 7-5

Milton, MA - Suffolk University softball (7-8) fell to Curry College (8-8) by a score of 7-5 on Wednesday in a non-conference matchup. The Colonels recorded 13 hits in the game and took advantage of three Rams' errors to earn the victory. Seniors Kristen Jackman (Stoughton, MA) and Lauren Tobey (Lynn, MA) each had three hits to lead Curry in the win.
Suffolk jumped ahead early picking up a run in the second inning when senior Kellie Hurlock (East Lyme, CT) brought in freshman Cali Loura (Farmington, CT) for her eighth RBI of the season. The Rams added another run in the third when senior Marie Trainor (Winthrop, MA) pulled a pitch down the left field line for her second home run of the spring.
Curry answered in the bottom half of the third when Tobey hit a 2-run homer to left with two outs to even up the score. The Colonels then put up three more runs in the fourth. Sophomore Samantha Velezis (Waterbury, CT) drove in a pair with a single to left, and then came around to score on an RBI single by sophomore Krysten Hunt (East Boston, MA).
The Rams would come back in the sixth and even up the score at 5-5. Hurlock drew a walk to lead the inning off, before being forced out at second on a fielder's choice. Sophomore Monica Cioffi (East Boston, MA) then hit an infield single followed by a Marie Trainor walk which loaded the bases for the Rams. Senior Jess Ferreira (Cambridge, MA) then drove home junior Valerie Liberatore (Chelsea, MA) with an RBI single. Two more runs followed on the same play as the ball skipped past Curry's left fielder bringing in Cioffi and Trainor to even up the score.
Curry came back in the sixth tacking on two runs on a couple of Rams' miscues to take the lead for good. Freshman Jaimee Fligg (Osterville, MA) raced home on a wild pitch for the game deciding run, and the Colonels would take advantage of an error later on in the inning for insurance to take the 7-5 victory.
Freshman Elizabeth Galvin (Medway, MA) takes the tough luck loss on the mound for the Rams. Galvin went the distance striking out two and not allowing any walks. Only four of Curry's seven runs were earned. Freshman Jillian Nemcovich (Franklin, NH) picked up the win in relief for Curry.
The Rams are back in action this weekend as they play three GNAC double headers this weekend. Suffolk will host Lasell College on Friday at Popoulo Field in Boston's North End. Game one will begin at 3:00 pm.
