Jess Ferreira Named Pre-Season All American

Suffolk University senior shortstop Jess Ferreira (Cambridge, MA) was named as a second team preseason All-American by the Division III Softball Newsletter.
In 2008, Ferreira was named as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Year for the second straight season in a vote of the league's coaches, as she was one of two Rams to be honored on last year's league all-conference squad.
A native of Cambridge, Mass. and a graduate of Cambridge Rindge & Latin High School, Ferreira led the league in 10 offensive categories, including batting average (.545), hits (60), RBI (51), home runs (8), total bases (115) and slugging percentage (1.073) in 37 games played.
The 2006 Great Northeast Rookie of the Year as a freshman, Ferreira also rapped out 18 doubles and eight triples while posting a .594 on-base percentage and leading the league with 79 assists in the field. Ferreira, who sports a .483 career batting average and will enter her senior campaign 34 hits shy of the 200 plateau, came within two hits of tying the NCAA Division III national record for consecutive hits by notching 11 straight in three victories over Daniel Webster and Lasell earlier this month, and she posted more total bases (115) than at-bats (110) on the spring.
Ferreira, who compiled 34 extra base hits on the season, was ranked in the top 10 in six categories nationally in Division III, including third in slugging percentage, fourth in batting average and eighth in both RBI per game and on-base percentage.
