Suffolk University Women's Soccer had two of their players earn recognition for their efforts during the 2009 campaign as sophomores Leslie Hayden (Ross, CA) and Gina Dean (Revere, MA) were named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) All-Conference team.
Hayden, was named as a first-team selection as a forward. Hayden finished the season with 20 goals and 3 assists for a total of 43 points. Her 20 goals were the second most this season in the GNAC. With her two goals in the regular season finale, a 4-1 win over Pine Manor College on October 27, Hayden became the eleventh player in GNAC history to get to the 20 goal mark, and first since 2002. Her 1.33 goals per game average was tops in the league, and ranked 7th nationally among all NCAA Division-III players. Her 2.87 points per game average was third best among the GNAC, and was 12th best among all NCAA Division-III players. She also ranked 3rd within the GNAC with 4 game-winning goals.
Despite drawing much of the attention from opposing coaches and defenses in finding ways to guard and stop her, Hayden has put up quite the impressive numbers in her first two seasons for Suffolk. In 29 career games she has now scored 37 goals (1.27 per game which would be the highest in GNAC history). She has also amassed 80 career points in that span (2.75 points per game, second most in GNAC history). Earlier this season, Hayden became the 21st player in NCAA history to score at least 6 goals in a game (setting a GNAC record for goals in a game) when she reached the feat in a 9-0 victory over Mass. Maritime Academy on October 14. Recognized in 2008 as the GNAC Rookie of the Year and second team All-Conference selection, Hayden has been named to the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll on four occasions this season, and has scored three hat tricks in 2009.
Hayden was also named to the GNAC's All-Sportsmanship team for the second consecutive year.
Dean, was named a third-team selection as a midfielder. In 15 games this season she scored 4 goals with 7 assists for a total of 15 points. Dean proved to be a compliment to Hayden offensively, finishing second in the team in total points, and third in shots with 30. She had her best game in a 4-1 win over Pine Manor College scoring a goal and adding two assists.
In her career, Dean has started all 29 games over the past two seasons for Suffolk, and has shown tremendous versatility playing multiple positions. In that span she has 19 points on 5 goals and 7 assists.
