Newton, MA -- The Mount Ida College women's soccer team hosted Suffolk University stalemating a 0-0 double overtime tie in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play this Wednesday in Newton, Massachusetts.  Both teams had numerous opportunities to score but neither squad could muster a goal.  The Mustangs hold at 2-7-2, 0-6-1 in the GNAC while the Rams stay at 2-6-1, 0-6-1 in conference play.

The first legitimate opportunity for the Mustangs came in the 10th minute of play with senior Katie Lorenco (Mattapoisett, MA/Old Rochester) on a one-on-one break away with Ram goaltender Emily Joyce (Easton, MA/Oilver Ames).  Lorenco tried to slide the shot pass the keeper on the right side deflected it in front of the net.  Mustang freshman Elena Ooms (Valatie, NY/Ichaobd Crane) tried to volley the rebound but shot it right into the stomach of Joyce for a missed opportunity.

It was stagnant for the rest of the first half with neither team able to put anything together for any type of scoring change with the teams heading into the locker room at a 0-0 tie.  The second half was a stalemate with neither team able to put anything together.  The few chances that the Rams had were stuffed by Mustang keeper Meghan Begins (Jericho, VT/Jericho).  The second half end at a 0-0 tie heading into the first overtime.

After a quiet first extra period, there was one final chance for each squad in the second OT.  Suffolk sophomore Leslie Hayden (Ross, CA/Redwood) fired a shot from the left side of the box that caromed off the post for failed attempt.  The Mustangs had one more shot at the net off a direct kick taken by junior captain Lindsay Lincoln (Clarksburg, MA/Drury) sending it to the right post.  Mount Ida freshman forward Heather Harrington (Bedford, NH/Manchester West) was pushed to the ground while going for the ball with no call from the officials and time expiring ending in a 0-0 tie.

The Rams will be back in action on Monday as they host Rivier College in a GNAC matchup at 2:00pm.
