Box Score

Somerville, MA - The Norwich University Cadets (3-3, 1-3 GNAC) scored two second half goals to defeat the Suffolk University Rams (2-3, 0-3 GNAC) on Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Brittany Casey (Pointe-Claire, Que.) scored the game-winning goal at 68:20 scoring off of a throw-in from junior Megan Gringras (Williamstown, Vt.) for the 2-1 deciding edge.

Junior Marie Andre Trombetta (Guatemala City, Guatemala) scored her first goal of the season to give the Rams a 1-0 at 14:03 in the first period. Trombetta knocked in a rebound in front of the net off of a shot from sophomore Leslie Hayden (Ross, CA) as the scoring opportunity was started on a corner kick from sophomore Gina Dean (Revere, MA).

The Cadets evened the game at 1-1, when sophomore Kacey Abbriano's (Hicksville, NY) shot from 60 feet out went over the head of Rams' goalkeeper Emily Joyce (Easton, MA). Freshman Bianca Bogda (Cranston, RI) got the play going by dropping a pass back to Abbriano who converted for her first goal of the season.

The Cadets spent most of the afternoon on the offensive attack putting out a total of 34 shots in the game.  Casey, Bogda and freshman Nicole Morales (Hauppague, NY) led the attack with four shots on goal each.

Junior goalkeeper Alecia Wright (Piffard, NY) made three saves in the game for her second shutout of the season, picking up her third win in 2009.

Joyce made 16 total saves in the game to keep the Rams close, including 10 saves in the first half.

Norwich had a goal waived off in the first half when Bogda beat Joyce, but the goal was disallowed on a hand ball violation.

The win was the first for Norwich in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play this season, while the Rams remain winless in three conference contests.

Suffolk will be back in action on Tuesday as they take on Emmanuel College in a GNAC match at 7:00pm.
