The Suffolk University Women’s Soccer team continued to garner postseason awards by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
The Rams were one of only 72 intercollegiate soccer teams in the nation, among all divisions, to win an award on the NSCAA Team Ethics/Sportsmanship list. Suffolk was one of 49 teams to earn a Silver Award, which is given to teams that accumulate no red cards and a maximum of five yellow cards during the season. It is the third straight season that Suffolk has been listed for this prestigious award list under Head Coach Ernst Cleophat.
Junior Kristina Michael (Fall River, Mass.) earned accolades by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) being named to the Scholar All-East Region Honorable Mention team for the 2010 season. Michael, an Advertising Major at Suffolk has a cumulative grade point average of 3.66. Michael started all 17 games this past season for the Rams. In her three seasons with the Rams, Michael has started all 46 games for Suffolk as a defender. Michael also earned recognition earlier this season by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) being named to the league’s All-Sportsmanship team.
The Rams finished the 2010 campaign with a 13-4-1 record earning their first ever postseason berth into the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Tournament, while the Rams also finished the regular season with the top record at 10-2 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC).
Based in Kansas City, Kan., the NSCAA is the largest soccer coaches' organization in the world. Since its founding in 1941, it has grown to include more than 30,000 members who coach both genders at all levels of the sport. In addition to a national rankings program for colleges and high schools, NSCAA offers an extensive recognition program that presents nearly 10,000 individual awards every year. It fulfills its mission of coaching education through a nationwide program of clinics and week-long courses, teaching more than 6,000 soccer coaches each year.
