Boston, MA - The Suffolk University Rams took down the Becker College Hawks, 3-0 on Tuesday evening to pick up their first win of 2009 in their season opener. The Rams defeated the Hawks in straight sets, 25-14, 25-9 and 25-23.
Junior Julie Sullivan (Haverhill, MA) had six service aces, while sophomore Melissa Griffin (Byfield, MA) had eight kills, two service aces and a dig to lead the Rams to victory. Senior Kelsey Armstrong-Hann (Corvallis, OR) finished the evening with five kills, four service aces and three digs, while junior Shoshana Akins (Highland, CT) added four digs.
The victory was also the first in the collegiate coaching career of Heather Cox, who was hired earlier this summer as Head Coach of the Rams.
Suffolk will be back in action on Thursday evening as they travel to Buzzards Bay to take on Mass. Maritime Academy.
